Diploma & Degree in Applied Theology Introduction

Head, Heart and Hands
IBI is committed to an approach to study that develops the whole person: head (mind), heart (attitudes) and hands (skills). This means that our courses place emphasis on Christian character as well as a student's capacity to study and their ability to do a job.

The Diploma (level 2) and BA (level 3) builds on the foundation laid at Certificate (level 1) and provides the opportunity for students to become well equipped for a wide variety of Christian ministry in today’s Ireland. As well as gaining a recognised qualification, students develop in their gifts, in knowledge of and ability to handle God’s Word and in understanding of themselves and of the fast-changing world in which God has placed them.

Outcomes

By the end of level 3, here are some outcomes we hope and pray to see in students:

  • a deepened love for God and for people
  • a good grasp of God’s truth and its implications personally, in church life and in today’s Ireland
  • the character of a Christ-like servant leader who is progressively growing in his/her own faith
  • the spiritual maturity to know and understand one’s own strengths and weaknesses
  • transferable skills such as self-discipline, writing and research, and personal responsibility
  • able to communicate information and ideas in a variety of settings including Bible studies/preaching
  • good exegetical skills
  • an informed understanding of biblical theology and individual Bible books
  • qualified to undertake further training
  • an ability to engage with other viewpoints in a constructive way
  • development of relationships that foster teamwork and mutual encouragement
  • the skill to evaluate ‘how things are done’ (whether personally or in a church setting for example) in order to develop and implement ideas for improved ministry practice.
