The Spirit, Character and Christian Life
Delivery: IBI Live – on site or on Zoom
Credits for IBI FA: 2 (when done with assessment)
This course explores what the Bible says about the new covenant ministry of the Holy Spirit, especially the Spirit in Acts and the Spirit in the letters of Paul. As we go, there will be a number of student-led seminars on key NT texts.
Theological themes will include Jesus, character and virtue, the Holy Spirit as Life-Giver and God’s empowering presence, the Spirit – Flesh conflict in Pauline theology, the Spirit and spiritual gifts, and the Holy Spirit and personal transformation. Since a key aspect of the Spirit’s role is one of growth in Christlikeness, we will explore thinking, past and present, about character and virtue. Since character is by far the most important qualification for any form of Christian ministry, a goal will be to facilitate students to identify, reflect and respond to virtues in their own lives that need growth and change.
