Introducing Biblical Theology

Delivery: IBI Live: on-Site or on Zoom

With assessment. Credits for IBI FA: 2 (when done with the assessment)

One of the most remarkable things about the Bible is that, while it is made up of 66 books written by numerous authors in different languages over centuries, it nevertheless takes the form of one great overarching narrative or story.

The purpose of this course is to help us grow to know God better, enjoy God more, and discern God's call to work in the world and the church. To do this we will explore God's grand metanarrative.

In other words, we will try to understand the 'big story’ of the Bible and how some of the main themes of Christian theology fit into that story.

We will also consider how we can find our God-given place and purpose in the story of Scripture, helping us to develop a Christian mind for a lived-out faith in Jesus.

The module aims to:

  • enable students to describe the overall “storyline” of the Bible and introduce central Christian beliefs and how they fit within the overall Bible story;

  • consider how the gospel of Jesus Christ is understood within the Bible’s storyline;

  • engage in reflection on personal and practical implications of theological themes raised.

This module is taught by Patrick Mitchel.
