Developing Pastoral Caring
This module builds on the foundation set in the Introduction to Pastoral Caring course. While pastoral caring may occur ‘naturally’ as part of a Christian community, it is important in any ministry context to reflect biblically and theologically on this activity. The importance of proactive as well as reactive care will be highlighted.
The Story of the Bible
One of the most remarkable things about the Bible is that, while it is made up of 66 books written by numerous authors in different languages over centuries, it nevertheless takes the form of one great overarching narrative or story.
The purpose of this course is to help us grow to know God better, enjoy God more, and discern God's call to work in the world and the church. To do this we will explore God's grand metanarrative.
Introduction to Pastoral Caring
This module will give input on how to biblically care for each other in a way that is helpful while not going beyond our limits. It will help you think about the role of the church as a caring community and how we play our part in that. We will spend time exploring foundational principles for Christian caring and will think through some specific issues including depression, bereavement and handling conflict.
Church and Ministry
There are many and varied expressions of Church in Ireland today. This module will re-examine the biblical images and metaphors for Church and then think about the essential functions of the Church which are being expressed in different forms around us.
The Spirit, Character and Christian Life
This course explores what the Bible says about the new covenant ministry of the Holy Spirit. There is special focus on two writers – Luke and Paul. We examine the Spirit in Acts and the Spirit in the letters of Paul. Taking a step back we also look at the 'big picture' of the Spirit's role within God's redemptive purposes for individuals and the church.
